Members of the Oakland Restaurant Collective, together with Mr. Espresso’s Luigi Di Ruocco, consider in a brighter future for Oakland. At a rollout occasion on Monday, Jan. 27, 2025, a newly shaped nonprofit introduced plans for bringing that future to fruition.
Spearheaded by restaurateurs together with Nelson German (AlaMar, Sobre Mesa), Paul Iglesias (Parche, Jaji) and Luigi DiRuocco (Mr. Espresso), Oakland Restaurant Collective goals to counter the stigma surrounding Oakland and its culinary scene by amplifying optimistic tales highlighting town’s bars, cafés and eating places. Roughly 140 attendees — together with media members, bar homeowners, native politicians and company sponsors — gathered on the Kissel Lodge’s rooftop to listen to the collective’s founding members relay their imaginative and prescient.
“Our mission assertion is to help, defend and promote the Oakland hospitality trade,” DiRuocco advised visitors through the hour-long presentation. “Harnessing the facility of a unified neighborhood, we are going to construct a powerful community to supply help and assets for our companies, advocate for significant modifications on the metropolis and county ranges, and showcase Oakland’s numerous hospitality choices to each native and nationwide audiences.”
