Order of the Star of Italy Acknowledges Carlo Di Ruocco for Strengthening Worldwide Bonds
In early June, our household had the good honor of accepting an award on behalf of our late father, Carlo Di Ruocco. He was posthumously named Officer of the Order of the Star of Italy (Ufficiale dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia), an elevation from the knighthood (Cavaliere) he obtained in 2009. This award acknowledges people who’ve strengthened the bonds between Italy and different nations. For our father, espresso and meals have been his bridge from his hometown of Salerno to the Bay Space.
Carlo promoted Italian tradition in america in numerous methods. Via his pioneering work introducing wood-roasted espresso to the Bay Space, his help of Italian organizations, and his lifelong dedication to craftsmanship and group, he introduced a style of Italy to day by day American life. He supported the San Carlo Opera’s go to to San Francisco, contributed to the transform of the Italian Consulate’s out of doors plaza, and was a loyal member of the Accademia Italiana della Cucina.
Concerning the honor, Carlo’s son, Luigi Di Ruocco, wrote, “What Carlo completed in his lifetime is sufficient for any man to be happy with, particularly after leaving his native nation for an unknown one, with no certainty or promise of success. We’re extraordinarily fortunate for the legacy he left behind. This award is an ideal instance of that legacy.”
